This is an original antique newsstand advertising poster for the October 1895 issue of Scribner’s Magazine which featured articles on the history of Chinese immigration in the United States. The slogan “The Chinese Must Go” highlighted on this poster was a rallying cry of Denis Kearney and his Workingmen’s Party of California in the 1870s which worked to restrict the immigration and settlement of Chinese into California and the ultimate passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

This poster has been professionally linen backed and shows a lateral fold line at the center and small expert repairs to mounting marks on the upper right and left corners. This antique original poster displays beautifully and is in very good clean condition overall.
