This is a vintage original and very scarce jumbo sized promotional postcard for the Alfred Hitchcock MGM spy thriller North By Northwest. This postcard measures about 9” x 6.5” and features the movie’s iconic scene of Cary Grant’s character Roger Thornhill being chased by the crop duster airplane.

The front of the card has text that indicates “No. 3 Vacation Excitement from Alfred Hitchcock International Intrigue In The Mid-West Plains”.  The back of the card has a printed handwritten message from Alfred Hitchcock relating to the crop duster scene depicted on the front of the card. The postcard is postmarked June 17, 1959 from Chicago, Illinois and addressed to Philadelphia Inquirer movie critic Mildred Martin with the original cancelled 4-cent purple Abraham Lincoln stamp still attached. Mildred Martin was a longtime movie critic of the Philadelphia Inquirer whose career spanned several decades.

These promotional postcards are extremely scarce. We only find one auction record which was for a single card selling for $411 and that one didn’t feature the movie’s iconic crop duster scene. This vintage original jumbo promotional postcard is fully complete and intact with just light handling wear. The back of the card has a slight bit of foxing and the front of the card has a small ink mark from the postal cancel. Overall condition is very good.
