This antique original French poster advertising Liberator bicycles and motorcycles was created by the Romanian born artist Jean de Paleologue who signed his posters with PAL or Pal. This is the largest size we’ve ever encountered in this poster which was issued in several variations over a period of years. This poster image was originally issued in 1899 and was revised and later redrawn by Emile Clouet. We believe this is the first version as it appeared in 1899 before the Clouet redrawing.

This poster features the amazing image of a topless Gallic warrior princess striking a conquering pose with impressive helmet, giant sword and a Liberator bicycle by her side. The printer’s logo of Caby & Chardin of Paris is printed at the bottom and a Paris address is printed in the lower right-hand corner of the poster.

This antique original poster has been professionally linen backed. The bottom sheet is slightly wider than the top sheet by about 1.5 cm so the sheets don’t align perfectly but this was how the poster was issued. The poster shows some toning mostly on the margins and moderate handling wear and slight scattered foxing in places. The bottom of the poster has a few scuffs. The colors remain bold and this impressive poster really displays wonderfully.
