This poster by the French artist ALO (Charles-Jean Hallo) was issued by the Red Star Line in the late 1920s to advertise trans-Atlantic travel via the SS Bergenland. This ship was initially commissioned in 1914 but then hastily diverted during construction for use as a wartime freighter and troopship during WWI.  Shortly after the war the SS Bergenland was returned to the Red Star Line, refitted for civilian use and converted into the Red Star Line’s largest and most luxurious ship. The ship carried many famous passengers during her heyday as a luxury trans-Atlantic ocean liner including Albert Einstein who, on his way to Germany in 1933, disembarked from the ship in Antwerp and returned to the United States after learning that Adolf Hitler had been elected Chancellor of Germany. The lower margin indicates this poster was printed in Antwerp by E.Stockmans & Co.

This vintage original poster has a short tear of about two centimeters on the edge near the lower right hand corner and another tear of about one centimeter about half way up on the right edge and is very clean and otherwise in excellent near perfect condition with just light handling wear.
