{"product_id":"1927-galveston-bathing-beauty-girl-s-revue-mopac-excursion-broadside-texas","title":"1927 Galveston Bathing Beauty Girl’s Revue MoPac Excursion Broadside Texas","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis is a vintage original railroad excursion broadside issued by the Missouri Pacific Lines for the 1927 Bathing Girl’s Revue at Galveston, Texas.   This broadside measures 18” x 6” and is printed one side only with a graphic vignette of one of the bathing beauties holding an umbrella along with timetables, fares and other information about travel to the event.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Bathing Girl’s Review in Galveston, Texas was organized by Willett R. Roe and the Galveston Beach Association beginning in 1920 as an effort to promote tourism.   The event was to be held in May every year to signal the start of the summer tourist season.   The 1927 Galveston Bathing Girl’s Revue advertised on this broadside was a major success that drew an estimated 250,000 visitors to Galveston.  In 1926 the event was expanded to include the International Pageant of Pulchritude, the first international beauty contest and the first to crown a Miss Universe. The 1926 revue had a contestant from both Mexico and Canada but the 1927 revue was the first to have a truly international representation with entries from Cuba and several European countries participating for the first time. The Bathing Girl’s Revue and International Pageant of Pulchritude would continue until the economic hardships brought on by The Great Depression would bring it to an end in 1931.  In 2009 the event was resurrected as the Galveston Island Beach Revue and has been held every year since.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis vintage original railroad broadside is printed on newsprint type paper and looks pretty well unused with no tape or pinholes and light handling wear and modest toning from age.  Overall condition is excellent.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Golden Age Posters","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52444010971416,"sku":"26070300","price":125.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0052\/7794\/1863\/files\/IMG_0927.jpg?v=1785101700","url":"https:\/\/goldenageposters.com\/products\/1927-galveston-bathing-beauty-girl-s-revue-mopac-excursion-broadside-texas","provider":"Golden Age Posters","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
