This vintage original poster was issued to herald the opening the new Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center in New York City on September 16, 1966. The image for the poster was taken from the painting “The Triumph of Music” located in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center which was executed by Charles Sorlier “under the complete supervision of Marc Chagall”.

The lower corners are printed D’APRÈS MARC CHAGALL – CH. SORLIER GRAV and PRINTED IN FRANCE – BY MOURLOT PARIS and text at the bottom center reads "MARC CHAGALL” COMMISSIONED BY LINCOLN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FOR THE LIST ART POSTER PROGRAM OF THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF ARTS
