This is a vintage original c.1963 large format poster advertising the Washington Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Christmas children’s ballet classic The Nutcracker. The poster indicates the production was choreographed by Alexandria Danilova and starred Robert Davis and was accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra.
Alexandria Danilova was a Russian born and trained prima ballerina who emigrating to the United States in 1924 and became a major figure in American ballet. Danilova had a long association with the Washington Ballet in Washington D.C. Danilova choreographed the Washington Ballet’s first full production if The Nutcracker in 1961. This poster isn’t dated for the year but appears to be from the early 1960s and the dates given with December 27th on a Friday correspond to the 1963 calendar.
This is a large poster comprised of two pieces which would have been pasted together when the poster was mounted for display. This vintage original poster was never used or mounted and shows moderate handling wear, some toning from age, slight ghosting to the ink and couple small stained areas. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
