This vintage original poster was issued by the United States Treasury to promote the sale of United States Savings Bonds and Savings Stamps for National Defense just prior to the United States entering WWII. Beginning in 1940 with the outbreak of WWII in Europe the United States Treasury under Henry Morgenthau Jr. began marketing Savings Bonds as Defense Savings Bonds. This practice continued until the United States entered the war and became a belligerent power following the attack on Pearl Harbor at which time Defense Savings Bonds became known as War Bonds.
This poster features the image of the Minute Man statue located in Concord, New Hampshire. This statue, erected in 1874, was sculpted by Daniel Chester French and cast of bronze from melted Civil War cannons. The Minute Man statue became a national symbol of American resolve and was widely used on posters and in other ways during WWII.
This vintage original poster is free of tape or pinholes and looks pretty well unused with just light handling wear including a tear of less than a half inch on the lower edge. Overall condition is very good.
