The lower margin is printed “11-2-42” indicating the poster was issued in November 1942, less than a year after the United States entered WWII. The artist C. Lee Watts was born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1918 and attended the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York City where he developed his skill as an artist. With the outbreak of WWII Watts enlisted in the US Navy and worked as an artist where he created this poster and others. After the war Watts taught at the Cleveland Institute of Arts and created artwork and graphic design for major clients including Alcoa, Westinghouse and Lockheed Aircraft among others.
This vintage original poster is lightly used with no tape or staining, a single pinhole on each corner and only slight handling wear. The edges are lightly bumped in places and the poster shows slight toning from age. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
