This is a vintage original 1964 promotional and informational flyer on the yet to be built World Trade Center in New York City issued by The Port of New York Authority. This is a single sheet printed on both sides that measures about 8.5” x 11”. The back side is printed with document code “WTC-10 9/64” indicating a September 1964 publication date.
The front side of the flyer shows a photographic image of a World Trade Center model which is likely the first model unveiled in January 1964 by the project’s architects Minoru Yamasaki and Emery Roth & Sons. The verso features a small map showing the proposed location of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan with additional text describing the Site, Construction Cost, Plan, Occupancy and Access.
This circular indicates that The Port of New York Authority’s current plans anticipated occupancy in 1968 for the first stage of the center and that the construction costs were estimated to be approximately $350 million. The projections were overly optimistic as the first tenants didn’t move in until December 1970 and the total cost approached almost $900 million by the time the project was completed. This promotional leaflet was issued almost half a year before the Port of New York Authority began to acquire the first properties along Radio Row that occupied the site on which the Twin Towers were to be built. This flyer is one of the first if not the first official publication issued to acquaint the public with the coming World Trade Center project which wouldn't welcome it's first tenants for more than six years.
This vintage original flyer is fully complete and intact with modest handling wear including a lateral fold across the center, slight creasing and modest toning from age. Overall condition is very good.
