This is a vintage original poster is one of three created by British artist Henry George Gawthorn (1879-1941) promoting travel to India. For this poster Gawthorn renders a nighttime Indian street scene titled A Street By Moonlight.  Gawthorn trained as an architect but worked mostly as an artist creating beautiful travel posters for the London and Northeast Railway.  Gawthorn’s India posters are the only we know the artist created for destinations outside of Great Britain.  Gawthorn’s name is signed in print in the lower left corner of the image area and the lower margin indicates this poster was printed by Adams Bros. & Shardlow, Ltd. of London.  

This vintage original poster has been professionally conservation mounted to linen with some expert touch up as needed including repair to tears without paper loss of a few inches on both the right and left edges. Pinhole tears in the margins on each corner have also been expertly repaired as have some small nicks and abrasions on the edges.   Prospective buyers are welcome to contact us for photos of the poster prior to linen backing.  Overall condition is very good.
