This vintage original and rare poster was created by the artist James Montgomery Flagg and issued by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service just prior to the outbreak of WWII. For this poster Flagg renders an image of two men that look like father and son standing in a forest bracketed by the titled YOURS IN TRUST – WE MUST PROTECT IT FROM FIRE. This poster is one of at least three that Flagg designed for the United States Forest Service just prior to and during WWII. The lower margin has the United States Forest Service logo and lists tips for preventing forest fires. Flagg’s name is signed in print in the lower left corner along with the date 1939. The lower right corner prints a copyright by the American Forest Association.
This vintage original WWII era poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear and some toning from age. The poster was folded laterally a bit off center and shows some wear on the fold line and a crease along the top and bottom edges. There is a small bit of paper loss to the lower left corner not affecting text or illustration. The original colors are nicely retained. Overall condition is good plus and could be made to look almost like new with basic linen backing (which we can arrange for an additional cost). Overall condition is very good.
