This vintage original c.1969 Vietnam War protest poster was issued by the Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam organization. This poster features the distressing image of an armed child soldier alongside adult South Vietnamese soldiers taken by acclaimed Welsh photojournalist Phillip Jones Griffiths bracketed by the title:
VIETNAMIZATION Turns Children into Soldiers
The bottom of the poster is printed with a photo credit Griffiths who’s award winning work in Vietnam between 1965 and 1971 produced many of the most enduring and iconic images of the conflict. Griffith’s 1971 book Vietnam Inc. had a major influence on American perceptions of the war and remains a classic of photojournalism yet today. Vietnamization was a policy of the Nixon Administration enacted in early 1969 that intended to reduce American involvement in the war by expanding, equipping and training South Vietnamese forces and increasing their combat roll. Clergy and Laity Concerned About Vietnam (CALCAV) was founded in October 1965 in New York City by approximately 100 Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish clergy members and evolved into the largest ecumenical organization opposed to the war in Vietnam.
This vintage original poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear and a tiny puncture just below the word “Soldiers”. Overall condition is very good.
