This poster advertises the 1924 season opening college football game between the Dartmouth University Indians (later renamed Big Green) and the Norwich Cadets. Dartmouth is not normally counted amongst the pantheon of college football’s greatest powerhouses but when this poster was issued in 1924 they were indeed a national championship contender. Former Iowa coach and Dartmouth alumni Jesse Hawley took over head coaching duties in 1923 and engineered an impressive 39-10 record over six seasons. This run included a 22-game win streak that spanned the 1923 to 1926 seasons. This 1924 poster was early in that impressive 22-game win streak which included Dartmouth’s undefeated 1925 national championship squad that beat all comers behind the nifty quarterbacking of the legendary Swede Oberlander.

This poster features the dramatic image of a leather helmeted ballcarrier sans facemask charging forward. The lower margin indicates the poster was made by the Action Color Poster Company of Stockton, California. This poster has been professionally mounted to linen with restoration to small amounts of paper loss and expert repair to separation on the original fold lines and as needed. This poster displays a nice patina and would be the perfect centerpiece for any mancave or old time college football enthusiast. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original from Dartmouth’s brief shinning moment as college football’s top program.
