This poster was issued to promote the 1931 California State Fair and Western States Exposition held in Sacramento. The poster features an image of an equestrian rider and we believe the Western States Exposition was a horse show affiliated with the California State Fair. The first California State Fair was held in 1854 and Sacramento became the permanent venue for the fair beginning in 1860 and continuing to the present.

This poster is a vintage original issued in 1931. A snipe or pasted on piece is attached at the bottom of the poster which adds the name “Southern Pacific” presumably to advertise travel by railroad to the fair. Under the snipe the dates of the fair are printed as Sept. 5 to 12, 1931 with the snipe showing the same days in September but no year. This is an unrestored poster in very good condition. There is a light crease on the lower left hand corner and a bit of light lateral creasing at the center. There is a small spots with contact surface loss to the paper near the center of the poster. The poster is otherwise in very good clean condition with nice color and beautiful overall appearance.
