This vintage original silkscreen poster was issued by Braniff International Airways to promote Panama as a travel destination. The Mid-Century Modern design features a stylized image of Panamanian waiter in sharp white jacket and cap holding a platter. On the platter sits a sleek modern looking hotel and over the waiter’s arm is a towel imprinted El Panama. We find a variation of this poster where the towel is printed El Panama Hilton but on this example here the name Hilton does not appear. In 1957 the Hilton Hotels Corporation purchased the El Panama Hotel and renamed it the El Panama Hilton so it seems likely this version of the poster was issued prior the hotel name change in 1957.
This vintage original unrestored poster shows moderate handing wear including slight creasing in the image area towards the top, a couple small scuffs and a small quarter inch tear at the top edge without paper loss. The poster is free of tape, has no pinholes and displays nicely with strong colors. The original owner made a brief inscription in ink on the back of the poster which doesn’t show on the front side. Overall condition is very good.
