This beautiful poster was created by Sir Norman Wilkinson, one of Great Britain’s most important poster artists, for the British Travel and Holidays Association and features a view of The Tower of London. The lower margin is printed “Published By The British Travel And Holidays Association, And Printed In Great Britain By Chromoworks Ltd. London 54/46/14”.
Wilkinson is most remembered today for the marvelous posters he created for the British railways but he was also instrumental in developing the dazzle painting technique for camouflaging ships at sea during the First World War for which he would be appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This poster depicts an imposing view of the Tower of London from the Thames. Brief text explains how the rather dark history of the Tower has given way to happier times in the modern era.
This poster is a vintage original which was never hung and is very good condition with some toning modest handling wear. There is a one centimetre piece off the tip of the lower right corner. Overall condition is very good.
