This poster was issued by the Norwegian State Railways to promote travel to the International Festival of Music Drama and Folklore at Bergen, Norway. The image is of the city’s iconic statue of Edvard Grieg who is considered one of the most important Romantic era composers. Grieg’s use and development of Norwegian folk music in his own compositions makes him a major figure in the country’s national identity. A snipe was neatly applied to the poster to add the festival dates “May 26 – June 7” and another snipe is added for the year “1955”. The lower margin is printed “BAB” and “Printed In Norway by F. BEYER PAPI RVAREFABRIKK, Aksjeselskap – Bergen”
This vintage original poster was never hung and is in excellent condition with just some modest toning and light handling wear.
