This rare poster was issued on the occasion of the launching of Guam based airline Air Micronesia in 1968. Air Micronesia was established by Continental and other local carriers and began service on May 16, 1968 with one Boeing 727 named “Ju-Ju”, a DC-6 and two Grumman Albatross amphibians. The poster isn’t dated but the text indicates that a new Continental hotel will open in Guam in early 1969 and that the airline was inaugurating service. A small Air Micronesia route map is printed in the lower margin showing service between Honolulu, Majuro, Truk, Ponape, Guam, Yap, Rota, Palau, Saipan and Okinawa. The poster also indicates that several of the airline’s destination islands had modern hotels planned for opening in 1970 but “…for the present, please consider this flight to paradise only for the uncommon few who have an appetite for pioneering and adventure.”

This vintage original poster is printed one side only on an almost transparent onion skin type paper. The poster has a small one inch notch off the margin on the lower right hand corner not affecting text or illustration. The poster has some creasing to three of the corners and the top edge and slight vertical creasing on the right edge. The poster was issued folded and has about three inches of separation on one of the fold lines at the top edge and a couple short tears without loss on the top edge as well. This very rare poster still displays nicely and would be a great items for anyone interested in rare airline posters or this beautiful part of the world.
