This vintage original Norway travel poster was issued by the Oslo Travel Association and the Norwegian State Railways in 1972.
This poster pays homage to the 1947 Kon-Tiki Expedition organized by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl. The Kon-Tiki Expedition was a successful voyage of 101 days from Peru to the Polynesian islands on a primitive vessel made of balsa wood. While the pseudoscientific basis of the expedition was widely rejected by the academic and scientific communities the actual accomplishment of building a primitive vessel and sailing it some 4,300 across the Pacific captured the imagination of the world and made the intrepid Heyerdahl famous internationally. The lower margin shows the date of 1972 and indicates this poster was printed in Norway by Kristiansen & Weien.
This vintage original poster is free or tape or pinholes and looks pretty well unused with just light handling wear and a bit of very slight foxing at the bottom. Overall condition is very good.
