This is an original poster issued for the Custer Battlefield National Monument in Montana by the United States Department of the Interior National Park Service. This poster measures 20” x 28” and features a stylized portrait of Sitting Bull done by the artist Leonard Baskin in 1979 with the title Sitting Bull – Political and spiritual leader of the Sioux at the Battle of Little Bighorn.

Baskin was a remarkable artist who achieved international recognition as a sculptor, printmaker and illustrator. Of his own artistic credo he once said "Our human frame, our gutted mansion, our enveloping sack of beef and ash is yet a glory. Glorious in defining our universal sodality and in defining our utter uniqueness. The human figure is the image of all men and of one man. It contains all and can express all

I believe this poster was only available for a limited time as a souvenir to visitors to the Custer Battlefield National Monument in Montana around the time it was issued in 1979. This poster is in very good condition, was never hung and has no tape or pin holes. The poster shows light handling wear including a slight diagonal crease line of several inches visible on close examination and light foxing in the lower margin. Overall condition is very good.
