This is a vintage original c.1920s “yard long” color panoramic bird’s eye view print of Duluth, Minnesota published by the R.D. Handy, Inc. of Duluth. This bird’s eye view print measures about 31.5” in length by about 5.5” high and shows a sweeping view titled “Bird’s-Eye View Of Duluth, Minn. And Water Front”. The verso is printed “Published By R.D. Handy, Inc. Duluth, Minn. 132452” and is otherwise blank.
Ray Dewitt “R.D.” Handy (1879-1959) was a cartoonist who worked for the Duluth News Tribune and was also the publisher of a number of postcards, pictorial maps and books. We don’t find a date on this bird’s-eye view but it is a vintage original which appears to date c.1920s. This print shows moderate handling wear including a couple slight vertical creases. The verso shows a light trace of staining and few small abrasions and surface chips which don’t show on the front side. The colors are strong and the print displays very well. Overall condition is very good.
