This dazzling Mid-century travel poster was produced for United Air Lines to promote travel to their hub and home city of Chicago. A Douglas DC-6 Skymaster flies over Chicago’s Magnificent Mile with the Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower framing the city’s Michigan Avenue drawbridge. This poster isn’t dated but would have been produced in the late 1940s or early 1950s as United introduced the DC-6 into their fleet in 1947 thereby offering their passengers a pressurized cabin service for the first time. This poster really captures the bustling excitement of the city “…proud to be Hog Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation”
This vintage original poster was never hung and is in very good condition. The left hand side is bumped along the edge toward the bottom for a few inches and the poster is otherwise in near perfect condition.
