This colorful Mid-Century travel poster was created by Monique Cras for the French government in the 1950s to promote New Caledonia in the South West Pacific as a travel destination. A powerful looking Kanak man, one of area’s indigenous peoples, blows into a conch shell horn under the title L’ILE de LUMIÈRE which is one of the local names for Grand Terre, New Caledonia’s principal island. The right margin is printed “Published By And For The French Government Printed In France By R. Sicard – Paris” and the artist’s signed name is printed in the right side of the image.
This poster is professionally mounted to line and shows some toning from age, a couple small pinholes in the margins and evident lateral and vertical fold lines. This vintage original poster displays nicely and overall condition is very good.
