This vintage original poster was issued by Braniff International Airways to promote Rio de Janeiro as a travel destination. This colorful silkscreen poster features the whimsical stylized image of a group of tourists riding the cable car to the peak of Rio de Janeiro’s Sugarloaf Mountain as one of Braniff’s DC-6 propeller airliners flies by overhead all rendered in a delightful Mid-Century style. Text on the poster reads:

RIO Via Eastern Air Lines and Braniff International Airways

This poster was issued in at least two variations and this one featuring the DC-6 propeller airliner is the earlier version. On later versions a jet airliner replaces the DC-6 and “Eastern Air Lines” is removed so that the later version of this poster only mentions Braniff.

This vintage original poster is unrestored and shows moderate handling wear including a few small scuffs in places. There are two small stains on the back of the back of the poster from two small pieces of desiccated tape that dried up and fell off. One of the tape stains shows on the margin near the lower righthand corner and the other does not show on the front side of the poster. There is a bit of light foxing along the bottom of the poster. The poster displays nicely with brilliant colors. Basic linen backing and minor touchup could get this poster looking almost like new. Overall condition is very good.
