This vintage original poster was created by the Danish artist Otto Nielson who created many beautiful posters for the Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) over a period of more than 20 years beginning in the mid 1950s. Each of Nielson’s SAS posters feature one of the international destinations served by that airline including this example for the Far East. For this colorful painterly design Nielson renders an image of a two cranes in a marsh with a modern SAS airliner passing over in the skies above. The lower left corner indicates this poster was printed in Denmark by Axel Andreasen & Sonner of Copenhagen.
This poster shows moderate handling wear including some slight buckling to the corners and light bumping to the edges in places. There is a short quarter inch tear at the bottom center edge and on the lower left edge and a tear of about an inch about half way up on the left edge, all without loss of paper. There are small areas of surface paper loss to each corner and the bottom and top center edges on the back of the poster which don’t show on the front side. The colors remain strong and overall condition is very good for this vintage original which can be proudly displayed as is or with basic linen backing and minimal touch up could look near perfect like the day it was printed almost 70 years ago. For an additional cost, we can arrange linen backing for customers that would like to have that done.
