This vintage original poster features a stylized view of Cushwa Basin at Williamsport, Maryland which is part of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The Cushwa Basin, near Hagerstown, Maryland, was used to load and unload cargo and to allow canal boats to turn around on the C&O Canal. Construction of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal began in 1828 and was completed in 1850. In 1961 President Eisenhower designated this Industrial Revolution era canal a National Monument and in 1971 President Nixon made it a National Historic Park.
This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes but does show creasing on both the right and left edges. We don’t find a date on this poster but it came with other similar posters dated to the early 1970s and looks to be from that same time period.
