This vintage original poster was created by the prolific poster artist Adolph Treidler and issued by the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation in 1917. For this poster Treidler renders an image of a merchant ship camouflaged with “Dazzle Paint” which was widely used during WWI to make ships harder to see and target by enemy submarines. Text on the poster reminds those doing “Government War Work” that the products they are making are urgently needed for the war effort and by the boys fighting in the trenches “Over There”. The lower right corner indicates this poster was issued by the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation Publications Section of Philadelphia. The imprint of the printer of these posters, Thomas-Ellis Co. of Baltimore and New York, appears just below Triedler's artwork.
This original antique poster is free of tape or pinholes and looks pretty well unused with just some bumping along the edge on the upper left side and slight creasing. Overall condition is very good.
