This vintage original poster was issued to promote a 1972 exhibition of Swedish-American sculpture Claes Oldenburg titled Object Into Monument at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This poster features a photographic image of a smiling Oldenburg reclining against his sculpture Giant Three-Way Plug, a very fine example of Oldenburg’s work which typically featured massively oversized objects of everyday life. Three different versions of Giant Three-Way Plug, Oldenburg's first commissioned permanent outdoor sculpture, were installed including one at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This exhibition ran at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from November 17 to December 27, 1972. The photo of Oldenburg is credited to Hannan Wilke, herself a great artist who was in a relationship with Oldenburg at the time.
This poster is a vintage original issued for the 1972 exhibition. The poster shows light handling wear including a half inch tear without paper loss on the left edge and a bit of light curling along the left edge. There is a small bit of light foxing along the bottom edge of the poster. Overall condition is very good.
