This vintage original poster for the New York City Opera’s Summer 1983 Puccini Festival was created by the noted graphic designer, illustrator, type designer and native New Yorker Seymour Chwast. Chwast’s design features a dapper Puccini in straw boater style hat surrounded by floating characters from a few of his most beloved operas including Tosca, La Boheme and Madam Butterfly among others. Chwast is considered among the most influential American graphic designers of the 20th century who along with Milton Glaser and others founded Push Pin Studios in 1954.
This vintage original poster was probably never used and has no tape of pinholes. The poster shows light handling wear and has a brief pencil notation on the back of the poster and also shows some tanning to the paper on the back not affecting the artwork. Overall condition is very good.
