This vintage original WWI poster was issued by the New York Herald as an appeal to the newspaper’s readers to support the war effort through the purchase of Liberty Bonds. The poster features artwork by the noted and prolific political cartoon artist William Allen Rogers of a fallen American doughboy bracketed by the poster’s title which reads His Liberty Bond – Paid For In Full.
W.A. Rogers was hired by Harper’s Weekly in 1877 to replace Thomas Nast who was probably the most influential and well-known American editorial carttonist of the 19th century. After 25 years with Harper’s Weekly, Rogers was hired by the New York Herald where he spent another 20 years producing political cartoons and other illustrations, such as this postern, for the newspaper. Rogers name appears signed in print in the lower right corner of the illustration.
This vintage original poster was issued folded and is printed one side only on a newsprint type paper. The poster shows modest toning from age and moderate handling wear including a couple short tears on the edges. Overall Condition is very good.
