This vintage original c.1920 “Service Series” poster was created for the United States Army by Gordon Grant, Capt. USA. These Service Series posters were used to boost ethics and morality in US Army training in the 1920s. This poster is No. 24 in the Service Series and features a message about the posture and the way in which a soldier is easily recognizable even in civilian clothing, "The Soldier in 'Cits' Pick Him Out".
Gordon Grant’s signature appears printed in the lower right corner of the image area. Gordon Grant was one of the most popular and prolific American artists of the first half of the 20th century. He was mostly known for maritime watercolors and also produced posters for the United States military, illustrations for books and magazines and even did the artwork for the first ever Boy Scouts of America scouting manual.
This original antique poster is on the original linen backing with just light handling wear and some toning from age. The linen backing shows some foxing not affecting the front side. Overall condition is very good.
