This antique original WWI poster was issued in support of the 2nd Liberty Loan which was enacted on October 1, 1917. This poster features a patriotic image of the Statue of Liberty set against a red, white and blue American flag sky with text that reads BEFORE SUNSET Buy A U.S. Government Bond Of The 2nd Liberty Loan.
This poster was created by the Washington D.C. artist Eugenie DeLand who is sometimes identified as Eugenie De Land or by her married name Eugenie DeLand Saugstad. Deland’s unique waterline perspective of the Statue of Liberty seems to add reverence to the concept of Liberty itself. The artist’s name appears in print in the lower left hand corner of the image area and the emblem of the printer Sackett & Wilhelms appears in the lower right hand corner.
This antique original poster was issued folded and shows only light handling wear with no tape of pinholes. Overall condition is very good
