This striking poster was created by noted marine painter and watercolorist Gordon Grant in support of the “Eyes For The Navy” campaign of the First World War. This campaign to seek public donations of critically needed binoculars, telescopes and spyglasses was overseen by Assistant Secretary of the Navy and future President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The campaign offered one dollar for each donation accepted and a promise to return the binoculars and telescopes at the end of the war if possible. Grant’s image of a blindfolded captain on the deck of a warship aptly conveys the urgency of the situation and underscores the grave need for help from the American public.

This rare early war poster was printed by Sacketts & Wilhelms Corporation of New York City and has been professionally linen backed with expert restoration and touch up completed including mitigation to creasing and repair to several tears. This poster shows toning from age but retains bold color and displays very nicely.
