This large horizontal visually dramatic and striking poster is really a high point in the American posters produced during the WWI era. The artist John Scott Williams depicts a warlike Columbia figure gripping sword and shield and wrapped in an American flag. A huge screaming eagle screeches by as an army marches past silhouetted under ominous skies. The American posters produced for the Fourth Liberty Loan campaign appear more apocalyptic than those produced for other Liberty Loan campaigns and this one is arguably the most pronounced example of that trend.
This original antique poster has been professionally linen backed with expertly repaired tears and replaced loss to both the upper and lower margins touching into the image area. A few mitigated creases and the original fold lines show slightly in the image area. This poster retains the original vibrant colors and displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
