This antique original WWI era poster created by California born artist Henry Raleigh was issued in support of the Third Liberty Loan which was enacted April 1918.
This poster features stark imagery of a stalwart American doughboy stepping forward to hold back a hulking German soldier in Pickelhaube style spiked helmet. The German soldier’s bloody hand grips a terrified mother as she cradles her baby with all three figures set against a fiery hellscape of war under the title HALT the HUN!. The Third Liberty Loan Act authorized the US Government to issue $3B in government bonds at an interest rate of 4.5% to help fund the war effort. The lower margin indicates this poster was made by the Edwards & Deutsch Litho Co. of Chicago.
This antique original poster was issued folded and shows only slight handling wear and a bit of slight foxing on the verso. This poster has no tape or pin holes, retains the original color and displays as issued in 1918. Overall condition is excellent for this antique original.
