This vintage original WWI era poster is one in series created by the artist Maginel Wright Enright for the National War Garden Commission.  Maginel Wright Enright was the younger sister of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and a well established illustrator of children's books herself doing illustration for books by L. Frank Baum and Clara Ingram Judson among others.  For this 1919 copyrighted poster Wright Enright renders a whimsical image of a young lady with American flag and garden hoe slung over her should leading a group of marching vegetables Pied Piper style bracketed by text that reads:

War Gardens Victorious – Every War Garden a Peace Plant – National War Garden Commission – Charles Lathrop Pack, President.  Washington D.C.

The so-called Victory Garden program promoted by this poster was one of the greatest successes of the era with more than five million American war gardens under cultivation by the end of the First World War.

This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some touchup to a few short tears and small abrasions on the edges.  This poster showed some foxing which was mitigated during the linen backing process and still shows lightly.  The colors remain strong and overall condition is very good.
