This vintage original and rare interwar period poster was issued by the United States Navy for recruiting purposes in 1926. This poster touts the opportunity for world travel through enlistment in the U.S. Navy and shows a U.S. Navy sailor and a flock of birds flying over naval vessels with text that reads Follow The Birds South For The Winter THE NAVY Gives You That Opportunity I’ll Tell You How To Do It. The initials of the unidentified artist appear in print in the image as “R.E.B”. The document code printed in the lower margin indicates this poster was issued in 1926.
Far fewer U.S. Navy recruiting posters were issued during the interwar period making them much harder to find than posters issued during WWI and WWII. We find no other examples whatsoever of this poster at auction, on Worldcat or even through Google search.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with minor touchup as needed. Two small puncture holes in the upper margin not affecting the image area and some small abrasions along the outer margin on the left edge have been expertly repaired. This impossibly rare vintage original U.S. Navy recruiting poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
