This vintage original WWII era poster boldly featuring a pictogram created by noted graphic designer and artist Charles T. Coiner was issued in 1941 by the United States Office of Civilian Defense. Coiner also created the iconic “Blue Eagle” symbol widely used by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal National Recovery Administration (NRA) program and also created numerous pictograms used by the United States Citizens Defense Corps during WWII. Coiner’s innovative use of simple but brilliant geometric pictograms was described as “visionary” and was an important inspiration for the corporate logo and branding design trends that emerged and flourished in the postwar years.
This poster shows moderate handling wear and was folded at one time. The poster shows toning from age and has slight darker toned patch in the center as well as a small nick off the tip of the lower right corner as well as a single pinhole on the other three corners. Overall condition is very good.
