This vintage original WWII poster was created by artist Bernard Perlin and issued by the Office of War Information as OWI Poster No. 15 in 1942. Perlin’s visceral image of a muscular US Navy sailor raising his clinched fist over an exploding ship adds urgency to the poster’s stark and simple title Avenge December 7. This poster was issued shortly after the United States entered WWII while the attack on Pearl Harbor was still fresh on millions of American minds. This poster is unique in that it simply calls for vengeance without explicitly promoting the sale of bonds or otherwise serving a specific wartime goal such as educating and motivating workers or the public.
This vintage original half sheet size WWII poster is fully complete and well intact and doesn't appear to have been hung up or used. The poster shows moderate handling wear and slight toning from age. The poster has no tape or pinholes, retains strong color and appears unused and in excellent condition.
