This poster was created by the Nebraska born prolific illustrator and poster artist John Falter and issued in 1942 to help boost morale of those working on the home front to produce essential war materiel.  Two American soldiers in a desolate No Man’s Land struggle forward from their battlefield trench to grab an M1 carbine rifle from the gloved hand of an unseen factory worker. The imagery of the factory worker handing a new rifle directly to the soldiers on the battlefield adds emphasis to the poster’s tag line – “Give ‘em the stuff to fight with…”.

The poster was issued in at least two variants with this one printed “Sacrifice For Freedom!” printed along the lower edge. The other more commonly seen variant replaces the word “Sacrifice” with “Work” to read “Work For Freedom!” along the bottom edge.

The vintage original poster is folded as issued and shows moderate handling wear including some wear on the fold lines. The poster also has a few inches of separation on center vertical fold lines at both the top and bottom edges and there is a tear of about an inch off the same fold line near the top edge. There is no loss of paper and the separation and small tear are virtually invisible when the poster is laid flat. There is a small area with a faint trace of a damp stain on the back of the poster which doesn’t show on the front.  The poster also has a small VFW ink hand stamp near the lower right hand corner.  The color remains bold and the poster displays well. Overall condition is very good.
