This vintage original WWII era civil defense poster was issued by the Army Air Forces Ground Observer Corps to help recruit volunteers to serve as aircraft spotters. A diligent looking man with an Observer armband looks skyward toward the poster’s tagline – Guide the fighter planes. Above him a dark and ominous sky is filed with planes as he calmly relays vital information over the telephone in a scene that almost looks Film Noir. The artist’s name is signed in the lower right hand corner of the image but we can’t quite make out the name.

The lower margin of the poster is printed “10-5-42” so thus the date. This poster is printed on cardstock and has a pinhole on each corner and single pinhole at the center right and left margins. This poster otherwise shows light handling wear and is in very good condition overall.
