This vintage original and rare WWII poster was issued by the United States War Production Board in 1942. The War Production Board was established in January 1942 shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the American entry into WWII. The War Production Board was charged with helping convert America’s economy to a wartime economy and produced several different posters with the MORE PRODUCTION slogan as seen here. The image of a super fit bare-chested American worker shoveling coal into blast furnace is used as a symbol of American industrial might writ large. We have had several different WPB “More Production” WWII posters but this is the first time we’ve had this version which seems rarer than others.
This poster was issued folded and has moderate wear on the fold lines and slight separation on the fold line intersections in a couple places. There are a couple small nicks and short tears on the margins in places and a couple small scattered spots in places. There is a small bit of staining from a piece of a desiccated rubber band and a VFW ink hand stamp near the lower right hand corner. This rare poster still displays nicely and is in good shape overall.
