This vintage original poster is one in the U.S. Navy “Heroes Of World War II” series issued during WWII. This poster honors Lieutenant Noel A.M. Gayler who graduated the United States Naval Academy in 1935 and served as a naval aviator during WWII becoming the first person ever to receive three Navy Cross Awards. The poster features a large portrait photo of Gayler in uniform along with photos of the Grumman F4F-3 Navy Fighter, which was one of the planes he flew, and the USS Lexington aircraft carrier on which he served. Also featured is text describing events for which he was awarded the Navy Cross on three separate occasions all framed by a patriotic red, white and blue stars and stripes border.
The lower left hand corner is dated October, 1943 and has text indicating additional copies of the poster could be obtained from “Official U.S. Navy Photographs” with a Baltimore mailing address provided . This vintage original poster was issued folded and is in very good clean condition with just light handling wear and no tape or pinholes. There is a small VFW ink hand stamp near the lower left hand corner. Overall condition is very good. Email any questions. Thanks for looking.
