This rare vintage original WWII poster was created by Nebraska born artist John Falter and issued by the U.S. Navy in 1944 to help recruit women to serve in the WAVES. The WAVES were the women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve with the name an acronym for Women Accepted For Volunteer Emergency Service.
For this poster Falter renders an image of a woman embracing a man in a US Navy sailor’s uniform, presumably her husband or sweetheart, in that special type of dockside embrace given someone shipping out to deploy into a warzone. Behind them the sailor’s brothers-in-arms haul duffle bags and get ready to ship out while keeping spirts high with jaunty smiles. The text reads Bring Him Home Sooner…Enlist in the WAVES. The date 1 September 1944 is printed in the lower margin. The artist’s name, John Falter USNR, is signed in print in the lower lefthand corner of the image area.
This vintage original poster was never used and has no tape or pinholes and just light handling wear including edges slightly bumped in spots. Overall condition is excellent.
