This rare vintage original WWII poster was created by Nebraska born artist John Falter and issued by the U.S. Navy in 1944 to help recruit women to serve in the WAVES. The WAVES were the women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve with the name an acronym for Women Accepted For Volunteer Emergency Service.
For this poster Falter renders an image of two woman, sharply dressed in WAVES uniforms, walking in lockstep with the New York City skyline and Navy ship in the background behind them. Text on the poster reads Don’t Miss Your Great Opportunity. The Navy Needs You In The WAVES. The date 19 July 1944 is printed in the lower margin and the artist’s name, John Falter USNR, is signed in print on the lower right edge of the image.
This vintage original poster was never used and has no tape or pinholes and just light handling wear including edges slightly bumped in spots. A small spot appears in the margin on the right edge. Overall condition is excellent.
