This vintage original poster was created by the artist John Atherton for the United States Treasury to support the 5th War Loan Drive which ran in June and July, 1944. Atherton’s image features large “Extra War Bonds” broom sweeping away tattered German and Japanese flags, a German helmet with bullet holes and a broken Japanese sword. The lower margin indicates “Official U.S. Treasury Poster” and Atherton’s name is signed in the print in the lower right hand corner of the image.

This poster has been professionally linen backed with some expert touch up and repair as needed. A few pieces of old tape were removed from the corners with some overpainting and restoration of paper loss on the corners skillfully undertaken. This poster was issued folded and the original fold lines still show a little. The poster retains strong colors and displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
