This is a vintage original Korean War era trolly car style horizontal format poster issued in 1951 to help promote the sale of United States Defense Bonds. For this poster the artist Tony Kokinos renders an idealized image of a young mother and her baby looking lovingly at the photo of a man in uniform, presumably the husband and father, with text above the image that reads There’s A Bond Between Us! Additional text in the image area reads BUY U.S. DEFENSE BONDS. The artist’s name is signed in the image on the left side and the logo of The Advertising Council Public Service Project appears on the right side of the image.
The lower margin indicates a 1951 publication date making this a Korean War era piece. This poster is printed one side only on lightweight cardboard in the format most commonly used for overhead advertising on streetcars, buses and passenger trains. This is a rare poster which we don’t trace at auction.
This poster shows slight toning and moderate handling and has a couple short tears of about a quarter inch to half inch on the edges. The upper and lower corners on the right side are a bit bumped and there is a small chip off the tip of the lower right hand corner. The colors are strong and overall condition is very good for this rare vintage original.
