This vintage original poster was issued by the Student Mobilization Committee to End the War in S.E. Asia to promote membership in and advertise initiatives of that organization. SMC was one of the largest and most effective anti-Vietnam War groups, focused on organizing mass actions and advocating for the withdrawal of American troops. This poster features an image seemingly inspired by Swift’s Gulliver Travels of a giant Richard Nixon tied down by dozens of Lilliputian like anti-war protesters. The poster advertises the April 24, 1971 March on Washington and San Francisco which became one of the largest mass protests against the Vietnam War with some estimates indicating as many as 500,000 marched on Washington and 150,000 marched on San Francisco.
This poster is a vintage original from the event in 1971. The poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear including some slight creasing and short tears on the edges. The poster shows a few scattered spots and minor stains and slight toning from age which give it a nice patina and look of authenticity. Overall condition is very good.
