This compelling poster depicts a group of battle weary exhausted seamen slumped in a lifeboat as their torpedoed ship burns in the distance.  The poster’s tagline A Careless Word….A Needless Sinking reminds the viewer in dramatic fashion that loose lips sink ships.  This poster was created by German born illustrator Anton Otto Fischer who immigrated to America while working himself as a ship deckhand.  Fischer was later named artist laureate of the United States Coast Guard during WWII and created thousands of magazine covers and book illustrations in his long career as an professional illustrator.

This poster is the full one sheet size. The lower margin indicates this is OWI Poster No. 24.  This vintage original poster shows light handling wear and some modest toning from age.  There is a light trace of staining on the lower right hand corner and there is single one inch square piece of white library tape on the upper right and upper left hand corners on the back of the poster not affecting the artwork.   Overall condition is very good. This poster ships folded.
